Music Therapy Program
Melodies of Grace
Music Therapy for Mind, Memory & Spirit
About Our Program
The Melodies of Grace program brings the power of music to individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and dementia, helping reduce stress, encourage memory recall, and create moments of joy for participants and their families.
At the Watson-Ellison Foundation, we believe everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and connected, regardless of where they are in their Alzheimer's or dementia journey.
That's why we created Melodies of Grace, a music therapy program designed to support emotional well-being, encourage communication, and bring people together through familiar songs and meaningful musical experiences.
Music has a unique connection to memory and emotion. Even when verbal communication becomes difficult, a familiar song may bring back memories, encourage movement, or create a moment of recognition.
Our sessions go beyond simply listening to music. Participants are encouraged to sing, clap, move, share memories, and engage with others at their own pace.
Melodies of Grace offers both in-person and virtual sessions, making the program accessible to older adults and caregivers throughout Solano County and surrounding Bay Area communities.
What to Expect
When you participate in Melodies of Grace, you can expect:
A Warm and Welcoming Environment
Our sessions provide a comfortable, supportive space where participants can enjoy music without pressure. No musical experience is necessary.
Active Musical Engagement
Participants can sing familiar songs, clap along, explore rhythms, enjoy gentle movement, or simply listen. Activities are adapted to individual needs, abilities, and preferences.
Emotional and Cognitive Support
Music-based activities may help reduce agitation, ease anxiety, improve mood, encourage memory recall, and support communication in individuals living with dementia.
Connection and Community
Our program brings individuals and families together through shared musical experiences. Caregivers are encouraged to participate alongside their loved ones, creating opportunities for meaningful connection.
Flexible Participation
We offer twice-weekly group and individual sessions, with in-person and virtual options for participants who may have difficulty traveling.
Who Is This Program For?
Melodies of Grace welcomes:
- ✓Individuals living with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia who may benefit from meaningful musical engagement.
- ✓Family caregivers who want to share positive experiences and strengthen connections with their loved ones.
- ✓Older adults experiencing social isolation who would benefit from supportive group activities.
- ✓Individuals and families in Solano County and the greater Bay Area seeking accessible, culturally responsive dementia support.
Whether you are living with memory loss or caring for someone who is, you are welcome to join us.
The Difference Music Can Make
Sometimes the smallest moments mean the most.
A familiar melody may inspire someone to sing a few words, tap their feet, raise their hands, or smile in recognition.
During one of our sessions, a 72-year-old participant named Ollie, who experienced difficulty with verbal communication, was able to respond to entire song choruses.
Moments like these remind us that even when communication changes, opportunities for connection remain. Music therapy is not a cure for Alzheimer's disease, but it can offer meaningful emotional, social, and therapeutic support.
Join Melodies of Grace
You don't have to navigate Alzheimer's or dementia alone. Whether you're interested in participating, registering a loved one, or learning more about the program, our team is here to help. Sessions are available in person and virtually.

Help Us Keep Music Therapy Accessible
At the Watson-Ellison Foundation, we believe financial challenges should not prevent families from accessing meaningful dementia support.
Your donations help us provide musical instruments, program supplies, virtual participation options, and professional support while keeping sessions affordable.
Every contribution helps us bring music, comfort, and connection to more families.
Because every memory matters, every connection matters, and music can bring us together when words cannot.
